Walk In the Park Cardie
Isn’t this a cute summer cardie? 🙂
I happened to find this pattern while doing an online search this week for “fingering weight cardies” and finally clicked my way to the Yarnspirations.com website, where I found this lovely knitting pattern.
Although the yarn recommended and shown in photo (Caron Super Soft Light) is a bit heavier than the fingering weight stash yarn I currently have on hand, I think I’ll be able to make it work with a bit of needle/gauge tweaking. 😉

I love everything about it actually.
NOT too difficult but with just a bit of a challenge in the pattern section. And speaking of that, if you’ve been wanting to give charts a try, this would be an excellent pattern to start with. Easy but it still gives you some experience with following a knitting chart and also for using two yarns at the same time, when the colors overlap at the wavy parts. 😉
I also checked out the Caron Simply Soft Light and it looks like a very nice yarn. Great colors too, including some “ice cream shades” that would be perfect for summer and reasonably priced too.
And while you’re over at the Yarnspirations site, you’ll find a lot more great knitting and crochet patterns, for the whole family, many that are FREE and lots of luscious yarns to make them in too.
I’m really glad that I found out about the Yarnspirations site and this particular pattern. Now it’s time to get working on my swatch/gauge. I can’t wait to get started on this cardie! 😉

I started this cardie (with the sleeves). Unfortunately, there are errors I’ve found in the pattern chart for size medium, I have contacted the pattern website about this and they have sent the pattern back to the designers to correct errors.
I’ll update this post after that’s been done AND I’ve had a chance to test drive this pattern again.

I just completed my: Slice of Autumn/Spring shawl, which I posted about here.
It’s been raining here in BC and I haven’t had the chance to get out and get photos of this and several other finished yarn projects I have to share.
In the meantime, I am “itchin” 😉 to start another knit or crochet project but I can’t decide what to make.
I have 5 skeins of KP Stroll Tweed Fingering in Barn Door Heather shade, that I’d like to use up next.
I thought a short-sleeve cardigan/cardie would be nice in this yarn but I’m open to other ideas for projects too.
Only things I don’t want to make are another shawl or socks.
And, I want to use up all of the 1155 yds. if at all possible, or close to it.
If you have any knit or crochet patterns to suggest, please do! 🙂
And yes, I have checked at Ravelry already but wasn’t able to find anything that was “just right”.

Book Review: Sock Yarn One-Skein Wonders
Stash yarn….what to make, what to make…and how to use it ALL up? 😉
It’s an ongoing challenge for all of us knit and crochet addicts.
One of the first places I look for “stash inspiration” is my collection of: One- Skein Wonders books.
And my fav in this craft series to date is: Sock Yarn One-Skein Wonders.
What a fab book! 🙂
I consider ANY craft book good value, if I can pick out at least 4-5 projects right from the start, that I would actually make. When it comes to this book, I picked out a lot more than that, on my first browse, including:
Wisteria Arbor Shawl
Lacy Summer Footlets
These topped the list of numerous projects in this book that grabbed my attention. I actually have a stash yarn “on deck” for the Wisteria Arbor shawl, as soon as I finish up my two current projects on the go.
The Footlets I will definitely be trying as well; these look perfect for the summer days ahead. 🙂
And for anyone looking for a fun, easy project for a baby or toddler, these oh so cute pants would surely be a hit:
Baby Brights Tights
Aren’t they adorable?
There is something for every knitter in this book AND for knitters of all skill levels too. There are also a few patterns for crochet fans too. All made in sock yarns, but with a bit of variety of weights of yarn, in that general category.
And these are NOT all knit on teeny-tiny needles either, in case you have a phobia about dpn’s that are 2.25 MM or less ( I actually got over mine!) 😉
Projects range from baby and dolls clothes, gorgeous shawls and shrugs, scarves, gloves, mittens, toys, totes, home decor…you name it, it’s in here! And what gorgeous patterns these are, all made from just one skein of the suggested yarn they are shown in. And oh so perfect for adapting to your own stash selection!
I also checked over at the Storey Publishing site for corrections for this book. Not TOO bad, just two pages of corrections for the entire book. And as any avid knitter knows, that’s not a lot, compared to some of the “correction nightmare” books out there. You can find them here.
I highly recommend: Sock Yarn One-Skein Wonders. I have a LOT of knitting books but this one moved up in my top 5 favs, right away. It really is an exceptional collection of wonderful, unique patterns; to enjoy for years to come.

I want to make a couple of baby hats for friends who are recent grans, for the first time.
Of course, the hats are actually for the babies, not my friends. LOL
I’ve been looking at some knitting blogs in search of those oh, so fun baby hat patterns that are “transformed” into things like strawberries, pumpkins…and found this post.
I thought it was very helpful and so nice that this blogger atChemKnits took the time to assemble all these patterns in just one post.

Stash Busting x 2! Knit and Crochet :-)
If you knit or crochet on a regular basis like I do, I’m guessing you’ve also got a big stash of leftover yarns that are languishing in a craft tote or two (maybe three or four?) 😉
I had a browse around Ravelry a couple of weeks ago, looking for ways to use up my own stash and found these two lovely tote patterns, one crochet and one knit.
Thanks to designer: Kathy North for allowing me to share the photo and pattern of her Stash Bustin’ Tote, pictured above.
It’s an easy pattern, so if you don’t have a lot of crochet experience, this would be a good project to tackle, to hone your “hooking” skills. 😉
The other stash-busting tote that I really liked, was this one: Girl About Town, designed by Joanne Yordanou.
This one is knit and again, an easy pattern that would ideal for beginners.

On the Needles: Slice of Autumn/Spring Shawl
I’ve usually got at least one (sometimes 2 or 3…) knit or crochet projects on the go.
Right now I also have several finished projects that I need to get photographed, to share here and at Ravelry.
One of my current works in project is this lovely shawl:

I’m making mine in a lovely soft mauve yarn:
I purchased this yarn at one of my fav yarn sites: Knitting Warehouse

One skein of Patons Lace (498 yds.) is all this shawl requires, I love that! 😉
With circular needle, pattern download and yarn, this shawl is costing less than $20. 🙂
It’s NOT all wool but it sure looks like the “real deal” and based on previous experiences with wool blend yarns, I also don’t think blocking will be too difficult when my shawl is completed.
I’ve got about 20 rows to go but these are LONG rows at this point as the shawl is getting bigger and bigger; the final row has over 300 stitches, so if I get a couple rows done each time I sit down to knit at this point, I’m happy. 😉

-Volunteer to read to someone on a regular basis who is blind or vision impaired.
-Spend a day exploring winter’s wonderland with a child in need. Perhaps a way to also give a single parent a much-needed break.
-Befriend a older person at a care home who has no family or friends that regularly visit.
-Knit prayer shawls and give them to recipients personally, throughout the year.
Offer to help a neighbor who is living alone with some household chores like: snow shoveling, small home repairs, bringing over a fresh plate of cookies…There are a lot of lonely people out there and the holiday season is a particularly difficult time for many people.
-Volunteer to take calls at a local crisis center.
-Volunteer to help with a local literacy program.
-Plan small gifts to give as random acts of kindness: to people you meet on the streets, delivery people, letter carriers, clerks at stores you regularly shop at…and watch their faces light up with your thoughtful gesture.
Some suggestions: Coffee cards, a stack of fresh cookies tied up in a small gift bag, lip balms to help with winter chapped lips, simple hand-knit scarves, good-quality chocolate bars.
