Here comes the sun…

In the last couple of days, Joe and I have been discussing ( among other things! ) sunscreens. What could be found to use, instead of the popular brands on the market. These products are laced with a long list of  questionable ingredients, some with names too long to pronounce and with possible long-term side effects, often not known for years to come.

Joe sent our query over  to Caroline at Earth Friendly Gardening  this morning and she had some good information re: sunscreens to share….The good news is, there are apparently more 'natural' products showing up on the market now, something that we hadn't been aware of or looked into yet.

Also,  this afternoon, I received an excellent article from the News Target site, all about the general beliefs and some misconceptions that most people have about exposure to the sun. We apparently all need exposure to the sun, for our health and well-being, even though 'the sun' continues to be viewed as dangerous and to be avoided at all costs.

But people continue to be drawn to the sun and to being outdoors, soaking up the rays ( as are animals…just an example, check out Mitzi, enjoying a sunny snooze, just below  this post πŸ™‚ . I know that nothing revives my spirits more than a day spent outdoors, enjoying the sun, preferably with a beach as part of the view!!

This is a topic that will probably be debated for many years to come and one with no easy answers. It is good to be able to make informed decisions though and we plan to look into all the options and pros and cons. More time in the sun is a fact of life now, with warmer weather finally arriving. Bring it on!!!

  1. Thanks for mentioning my site G.! You’re right, being in the sun is like a magnet. Just look at how much cats like it. We have the same instinct as they do…it’s healing to be in the sun in some way. But as I get older, I notice that if I get any sun at all on my face I get these horrid brown spots. Sometimes you can’t win!

  2. Hi Caroline, Thanks for stopping by and for the sunscreen info too. In my next life I want to come back as a cat, of course with someone good to own, right !!! Do you feel that way too, they own us??? Worth it though, cats are treasures, I love them all. BFN πŸ™‚

[…] In the same vein, Geraldine at Veggies Yarns & Tales made a good point about the sun when she said: We apparently all need exposure to the sun, for our health and well-being, even though the sun continues to be viewed as dangerous and to be avoided at all costs….I know that nothing revies my spirits more than a day spent outdoors, enjoying the sun, preferable with a beach as part of the view!!
