This morning’s “pile” in the inbox included a gem from the News Target site, re: Prevention magazine.
Strange but true, only yesterday, I had returned a subscription offer to Prevention with the comment, “no thanks, too many drug ads”.
What a difference 20 or so years can make! I can remember my parents subscribing to this little magazine many years ago when I was still at home and attending high school. Even then, health and related topics were of interest to me and I would often read Prevention from cover to cover, it was that interesting. And, best of all, it really WAS about prevention in those days, staying healthy without drugs and other medical procedures. There was a big emphasis on herbal remedies, whole foods, exercise, staying healthy, not managing disease. And the ads that were included, were definitely in keeping with their philosophy and vision for their well-respected publication.
Unfortunately, Prevention magazine has, in the past few year, sold out it seems, in pursuit of the almighty dollar. The magazine is now a mixed bag of health related article, interspersed generously with one drug ad after another. Sad but true.
I am sure I am not the only former Prevention reader who feels this way but unfortunately, they don’t seem to be looking at adding to their revenues with more health-PROMOTING ads and companies selling products along these lines. Surely there would be enough out there now, to take the place of the drug ads. So long Prevention, I won’t be back until you take a long hard look at your priorities.
